JOBS
Engineering Volunteer Supervisor
This post is designed to enable the FfWHR to deliver heritage engineering projects at Boston Lodge Works as part of the project. The post holder will be responsible for resourcing and facilitating these projects by recruiting and leading volunteer working parties to deliver the project objectives and, in the process; manage and facilitate the transfer of skills and knowledge to and between the volunteers. The Engineering Volunteer Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the heritage engineering projects are delivered on time, safely, and to the required standards, and for implementing skills transfer within this context.
The post is for 3 years, full-time and is expected to be advertised very shortly for a start in early 2022. The salary will be £26,500.
This post will be largely workshop based and will suit someone with good practical heritage engineering skills who also has experience of training and mentoring and of working with volunteers.
Work Placement Officer
This post is designed to enable the FfWHR to support all trainees and work placements associated with the project and in the wider organisation, including the initial and continual development of training plans. The Officer will also undertake work placement and volunteer outreach, acting as a point of contact for all new volunteers within the organisation.
The post is for 3 years, 0.6FTE and is expected to be advertised very shortly for a start in early 2022. The salary will be pro rata of £26,500.
This post will suit someone with experience in coordinating mentoring, training and work placements and who also has experience of working with volunteers. The hours can be flexible to suit the right person.
Interpretation Officer
This post will work with the Interpretation Consultants to help deliver the interpretation plan for the railway. This will include supervising the Interpretation Trainee, developing training plans and individual learning plans for interpretation volunteers and for work placements, managing interpretation volunteers, supporting the development of tours around Boston Lodge and the delivery of story telling training for staff and volunteers.
The post is for 2.5 years, 0.8FTE and is expected to be advertised in December 2021 for a start in March/April 2022. The salary will be pro rata of £26,500.
This post will suit someone who already has good experience in the interpretation of heritage as well as working with volunteers who is looking for the next step in their career.
Training Events and Workshop Supervisor
This post will arrange heritage learning courses, develop and maintain workshop plans and materials, arrange staff and volunteers to support and deliver events and workshops, deliver training for volunteer trainers and programme and deliver specialist heritage learning, schools workshops and experiences and public workshops
The post is for 2 years, 0.6FTE and is expected to be advertised in late summer 22 for a start near the end of 2022. The salary will be pro rata of £26,500.
This post will suit someone with experience in training and skills development as well as working with volunteers who wants to work in the heritage environment.
Construction Project Manager
To support the delivery of the construction phase by providing day to day contact with the contractor on site and liaising with Boston Lodge Staff to keep the site operational.
This post 0.5FTE is for the duration of the construction (1.5 years) and is expected to be advertised in early summer 2022 for a start in autumn 2022 when construction on site starts. The expected salary is pro rata of £29,000.
This will suit someone with the right construction and logistics experience who wants to work for an heritage railway organisation.
TRAINEESHIPS
The FFWHR is also delighted to be able to offer three traineeships as part of the project that will suit people wanting to gain experience in the heritage sector.
These traineeships will build on recent experience and learning from the NLHF-funded ‘Skills for the Future’ trainee programme in 2018-20. The traineeship positions will:
- Develop a workforce for the future
- Bring new ideas and vibrancy to organisation
- Upskill and provide qualifications
- Allow trainees to co-curate their learning programme
- Provide experience in heritage industry-related roles
All trainee positions are full-time with a salary of £18,900.
Project Management Trainee (3 years)
The trainee will work with the Heritage Project Manager to support the delivery phase of the project. The work will include the administration, data collection and reporting for the project. The trainee will work alongside the Heritage Project Manager and have the opportunity to develop skills specific to managing heritage projects as the project works through the delivery phase.
This will suit a graduate level person with strong administration/organisational skills who is looking to work in heritage and who wants to learn about managing major projects that combine work on buildings (conservation and new build) with a wide range of volunteer and community activities and with interpretation.
Interpretation Trainee (2 years)
The trainee in this position will work with the Interpretation Officer to support delivery of the NLHF project. They will coordinate volunteers, including volunteer administration and database management, working with them to develop and collate interpretation content for the railway and for Boston Lodge Works.
This will suit a graduate level person with a passion for communicating heritage and provides an ideal opportunity to be involved in a major new interpretation programme for the railway.
Works Administration Trainee (2 years)
The trainee in this position will work with the Works Administrator and the Engineering Volunteer Supervisor to process orders for materials and equipment and undertake engineering volunteer administration including database management.
This will suit a well organised graduate or someone who already has proven administrative skills. The important thing will be a desire to develop skills to support engineering workshops.
