Trainee Open Day – 7th April 2022
Are you interested in working in the heritage sector?
Are you looking for a way to gain experience?
The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway has three trainee posts available as part of the Interpretation and Boston Lodge Project funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund.
Two of the posts, in interpretation and project management, will suit graduates who are looking for experience in the heritage sector and one further post will suit someone looking for experience of administration in an engineering environment.
The project has three key strands: interpretation across the railway, developing skills, and conserving buildings. This is a particularly exciting time with the recent World Heritage Site announcement for the Slate Landscapes of North Wales with which the project has close links and shared ambitions to make a positive impact in the area.
The 2 year full-time traineeships, starting in September and attracting the living wage, are part of the skills strand of the project and this is an excellent opportunity for the right individuals to develop skills in a heritage environment where there are few formal courses.

Our Open Day will take place between 9am – 4pm at Boston Lodge on the 7th April.

Whilst we would welcome applications from anyone with the right to live and work in the UK we are keen to promote the use of the Welsh language within the workplace, and the development of heritage skills within Wales therefore we would encourage applications from those who speak or are learning the language, and those who come from Wales and / or trained in Wales and are looking for opportunities to use and develop their skills within the heritage sector in Wales.

We can offer you:
- Salary of £19,094 for under 23 or £19,760 for 23+ (national living wage)
- A minimum of 28 days paid holiday pro rata, inclusive of all bank and public holidays
- Company enhanced sick pay
- Travel benefits on the Ff&WHR and on national rail according to the Rail Staff Travel rules in place at the time of employment
- Individual and regularly reviewed Training Plan
- A mentor (separate from your line manager) to help you make the most of your traineeship
The first step is to register your interest in attending the Open Day or if you are unable to attend that day, let us know you will be interested in applying. The Open Day will run from 9am to 4pm and will include a wide range of informal discussions, visits to Harbour Station and another station by train and a tour of Boston Lodge. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
The application form will be available after the Open Day with an expected closing date at the end of May and the opportunity for another visit and interview in late June.
